We’ll explore 5 simple marketing ideas that you can use to generate more customers! These will work for you whether you are a startup, a longtime entrepreneur, someone in retail business management, or a front line salesperson that just wants to crush it in business.

As long as I have been in sales, managers and business owners have said, “It’s the salesperson’s job to generate their own traffic!” – OR – “It’s your job to generate 50% of your own traffic!” But the thing is sometimes, we don’t know where to start.

So… where can you look for more customers? I have compiled this list of activities that have worked for me to generate my own customers. Using this I have been able to create my own destiny in sales.

  1. Work with the people that you already know. Target someone that you have already sold. Talk to people that are already in your database. Call people back, respond to your messages and texts. Keep in mind that statistically only 50% of salespeople follow up even one time. Make sure that everyone that you know, knows what you do. Fill out the “ABOUT ME” section on your personal social media.

And people are looking for a real human that they can trust and get real connections outside of social media. The struggle is that we often get nervous to ask people for who they know that may be in the market for our product. HOWEVER, If you just ask, normally 1 in 4 people will know someone, or know someone that knows someone that needs what you have. Keep in mind referrals should not be your only method to market yourself or your business, because then you are dependent on someone else to help you to sell and grow your business.
  3. Social media. Pick a platform. You need to be on social media. But you can’t be everywhere and everything to everyone. Try and dominate one or two platforms, become the resource for your industry.
  4. Online Video. Online video is not the  same as basic social media, in fact, as I am referring to it here, it is separate from basic social media. And because of this, people are consuming video sites separate from social media. You can position yourself as an expert (but know what the heck you are talking about – there is an abundance of terrible advice)
  5. What is your competition doing? People that want the highest level of success have to study their competition. If you played sports in high school – you likely watched film of opposing teams, or scouts came to watch you play to see how you were performing. It’s the same in business.
