That’s right, today I am one year older. Here’s the thing. I was speaking with a few friends yesterday, all of whom asked how old I would be. 41. There is nothing special or outstanding about 41. It’s just 41. What I mean by that is, that there are certain milestones, certain awesome birthday’s. Here we go – birthday’s one through ten, they are all special. You get cake, birthday parties, sleepovers, those birthdays rock. Then next milestone, 13, you are a “teenager” so you pretty much get to make your own rules. Followed by other cool things, 16, you can drive; 18, you can vote; 21 you can drink (legally)… 25 your insurance goes down. Then from there, you start to count in tens… 30 you are “middle aged,” 40 you’re “over the hill,” then suddenly, 50 became the new 30. After that, 65 is it, because you get to retire… then if you are one of the lucky ones, it spreads out from there and you don’t even get to be excited after that until you are 100. (Really… no one gets excited about 41 for example.)
Except for today. Today turned out to be a great birthday for me. Trump was just elected the 45th President of the United States. In my opinion, that’s pretty awesome. But, wait… there’s more. The Republicans took control of the Senate, and also control of the House of Representative’s. What that means is we have a “Super Majority.” That was a pretty cool birthday gift when I got up this morning.
Than, I had another conversation, with someone I consider to be a good friend. He reminded me of a simple fact. Regardless of who won or who lost the election last night, while I was excited about the turn that American politics is taking right now – don’t lose sight of what is really important, stay true to your values… my values. This is not necessarily a win for America. I knew immediately what that meant. While we are at the 45th President of the United States, and there will be many more, but there will always only be one king of kings. Stay focused on my values and Jesus Christ, and now more than ever, we need to remember to put it all in God’s hands. If we had more people that would keep that simple focus, we probably wouldn’t have seen the stress and frustration of the last 15 months, and certainly as the election reached it’s climax yesterday.
I close tonight and remind you of this, if you are happy with the outcome of the election, stay gracious and humble, and it will all work out. If you are unhappy with the outcome, maybe pray a little more for peace, answers, and humility, and it will all work out. The reason I am certain that on either side, it will all work out, is because in the divine blueprint, God already has a plan.
